Generic Brush Cutter: Skidsteer Type 1

How to identify the Generic Skidsteer Type 1 Brush Cutter.

Goes under several brand names including: Wolverine and Mower King

There are lots of companies that rebrand this generic brush cutter so you can identify it by checking the shape of the brush guard in the front of the cutter. Notice the large square brush guard plate with large vertical slots cut into it.

Stump Jumper Upgrade kit, Use this if your blade carrier was damaged or if you want a much more reliable system for your brush cutter.

It doesn’t matter which stump jumper you select. One is painted and the other isn’t. Regarding the short and long blades. The long blades are best overall but if you are cutting a lot really thick tall brush the short blades will do a better job of pulling the brush underneath instead of it falling on top of the brush cutter.

Basic Blade Replacement (See blade carrier replacement kit below)

I can’t find an original replacement blade for the Wolverine brush cutter. Anyway the blade was undersized for something this powerful and the bolts will wear out because they don’t have the proper blade shoulder. When you need to replace the blades I recommend using the following parts if you want to retain the original blade carrier. (The T-bar design) Note that you may need to grind the notch off the bolts or enlarge the hole in the bolt carrier slightly.

Please note: Certain years of the Wolverine & Mower King brush cutters used different length top shafts on the gear box. When you replace the brush cutter gear box it may be necessary to drill 4 holes and shift the hydraulic motor mount up to 1.5 inches further back or to cut off the top shaft of the gear box to match the one on your brush cutter.

The motor is pretty sturdy. However once in a while one will develop a leak. You can save a significant amount of money by replacing the seals.

The biggest mistake people make is not realizing the gear box on their brush cutter doesn’t have oil in it when it is shipped.
